Off the Grid
Off The Grid is a farm in the Western Ghats on the border of Goa and Karnataka. By virtue of its stunning and remote location has become a rather special little Homestay. Off The Grid is not connected to any supplied utilities like electricity, water, internet or phones, hence its name. As you will see, even in such a remote and wild place without the amenities that most people take for granted in their daily life, this little farm provides comfort bordering on luxury in a wholesome rustic way. Under the ownership of rather unique and alternative people, with a passion for a wild, natural kind of living, mixed with a great spirit of adventure, Off The Grid has gained a unique reputation as a very different kind of place to stay in the Western Ghats. This is not just another homestay. Unique, cozy, and just a little bit mysterious, surrounded by real wilderness. You are unlikely to find another place like it.

The Environment. Off The Grid is hidden away in some of the least populated and undisturbed evergreen
forests in peninsular India. It is situated on a perennial stream which dissects the property, bringing in
copious amounts of fresh flowing water. It is normal to see people everywhere you go in India, but here you may
trek all day and not see a soul, though not the case with wild animals. Plentiful wildlife indeed! This area
of untouched forest teaming with streams, natural grassy peaks, forested valleys and hidden waterfalls is
hemmed in by 3 roads and a state border. The area of this block of forest is approximately 2,500sq km and not
more than a handful of tribal hamlets and one medium sized village occupy it. It is quiet simply one of the
most "off the beaten track" places you may ever visit. This guarantees an unmatched privacy and a surreal
detachment from the outside world. The Farming at Off The Grid today is the same as it has been in these areas for hundreds of years, using only bullocks to work the land with no mechanisation. This is a simple small holdings, of five acres in size on which rice is cultivated. Other than rice some fruit trees and vegetables are grown. Since the soil is not rich and fertile like the larger plantations and farms on the Deccan side of the Ghats, we have been true to this land's origins and grow as much rice as we possibly can, much of which will find its way onto our guest's plates. |
Plentiful Mangoes are turned into jam for your breakfast along with Chikoos, Gauva's and other orchard fruit. A healthy vegetable garden sprouts lettuce and tomatoes particularly well, so there is no shortage of Garden fresh salads with every meal.

"When we arrived from the beautiful and diverse trail that leads up to the farm, I was
astonished to find the most beautifully preserved property I have ever seen. The rooftop
rooms and the Tipi tents offer an experience equaled only by the surrounding nature itself.
One has the comforts you need close at hand and a short walk up a forest track leads to a
natural pool under a water fall where I swear I reached Nirvana on seeing. There maybe no
Gourmet Chef here but you would not believe it, since the food was amazing. Two days and
nights was not enough. Oh! ... and carry a complaints book .... you will need it to start the
campfire with. Warm Vibes."
